It’s Time for Deep Healing

Introduction to Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy (KAP)

I offer a therapeutic modality called Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy (KAP) in partnership with an organization called Better U.

Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy (KAP) is a holistic approach in which ketamine is used as a complement to psychotherapy to help eligible clients experience more frequent breakthroughs and sustained symptom relief. I facilitate the psychotherapy portion, while Better U’s medical team supports you with all medical aspects. This includes determining eligibility, developing a custom treatment plan, prescribing the medication, and monitoring outcomes. Below is more information about KAP to help you decide if it may be a good fit for you.

What is Ketamine?

● Ketamine is a legal, safe, and effective medicine used to treat a variety of mental health conditions, including depression, anxiety, and PTSD. It has rapidly-acting antidepressant and mood-enhancing effects, which can begin within 1–2 hours after treatment and last up to two weeks. Ketamine works by blocking the brain’s NMDA receptors and stimulating AMPA receptors, which are thought to help form new synaptic connections and strengthen neural circuits that regulate stress and mood. It has also been shown to enhance overall neuroplasticity, leading to longer-lasting symptom improvement.

â—Ź Ketamine can be administered in various ways, including IV infusion, intramuscular injection, nasal spray, and sublingual lozenges. Better U prescribes lozenges.

How Does Ketamine Feel?

● The effects of ketamine, which most clients find pleasant, last approximately 45 minutes. These effects can make you feel “far from” your body and may facilitate perceptual shifts that feel expansive in nature. Your motor and verbal abilities will be reduced, so you’ll be lying down in a comfortable position during the experience. While it may feel difficult to articulate what occurred afterward, clients often describe the insights as surprisingly clear. Studies show that the benefits to mood and neurological growth can last up to two weeks after treatment.

Why is pairing psychotherapy with Ketamine treatment important:

â—Ź It helps you make sense of the experience: Ketamine can bring up deep thoughts and emotions. Therapy helps you process them and apply insights to your life.
● You feel supported through the process: A therapist provides a safe space to explore what arises, so you’re not navigating it alone.
● It leads to more lasting change: Combining therapy with ketamine increases the likelihood of sustainable growth. I integrate talk therapy with EMDR, Brainspotting, and other somatic modalities to help you achieve full mind–body healing.
